5/05/2018: 500 Years Later

500 Years Later

Sharing the truth on the anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his theses to the church door.

On October 31, 2017, 500 years after Luther nailed his 95 theses to the heavy wooden door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany, we stood in the very same spot, our arms loaded with literature as the crowd ebbed and flowed around us. People walked up to the big door and took pictures. Voices rang out with Luther’s “A Mighty Fortress” for the first of many times that day. Everyone was open and eager to talk. Mikael Similie from Light Channel TV in Denmark found many opportunities to film.

At 3.00 p.m., Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived. A German man, who was assisting in handing out literature, stood next to the fence lining Mrs. Merkel’s route.
He reached over and offered her the book The Great Controversy. Both she and the German President accepted the book. We could hardly believe our eyes, and almost shouted with excitement.

We soon saw that nearly everyone carried the small booklet we had been handing out. When we offered them the booklet, they would produce it from their bags
or inside pockets, saying, “We have already got it!”

So we started offering The Great Controversy instead. People snatched it up like fresh loaves of bread. They came up to us from the front, from behind, on every
side asking, “May I have that book too?”

We distributed about 23,000 booklets and circa 600 books during the two days we spent at Wittenberg. We thank and praise God for the Holy Spirit and the angels He sent to protect us and give every distributor a marvelous experience. Even the police and security guards left us alone!

Now our hope is that you will join us in praying for every recipient of the booklet and the book, that they will be awakened through this message for our time! We need to claim this promise from the Spirit of Prophecy in regard to literature distribution, “The message will be carried not so much by argument as by the deep conviction of the Spirit of God. The arguments have been presented. The seed has been sown, and now it will spring up and bear fruit. The publications distributed by missionary workers have exerted their influence, yet many whose minds were impressed have been prevented from fully comprehending the truth or from yielding obedience. Now the rays of light penetrate everywhere, the truth is seen in its clearness, and the honest children of God sever the bands which have held them. Family connections, church relations, are powerless to stay them now. Truth is more precious than all besides. Notwithstanding the agencies combined against the truth, a large number take their stand upon the Lord’s side.” Great Controversy, 612.

The Pope never showed up, and instead, the three angels’ messages – which are part of both the booklet and the book, and which we find in Revelation 14:6-12
and 18:4 – circulated throughout Wittenberg, reaching most attendees. In addition, we distributed the booklet to all the households in Wittenberg some three weeks before October 31st, 2017, and in totality printed 650,000 pamphlets for Germany. Nearly all the pamphlets have been distributed, and in January 2018 some people from Romania will go to the German-speaking areas in Switzerland and distribute the leftovers. Thus, the booklet has become public property in Southern and Northern, Eastern and Western Germany. God has really blessed this campaign in 30 countries. We give all the thanks and glory to Him.

10/14/2017: Mission to Sweden

Mission to Sweden

One believer hands out up to 1,300 copies of The Great Controversy per year to interested people in secular Sweden.

“The Great Controversy… I am more anxious to see a wide circulation for this book than for any others I have written; for in The Great Controversy, the last message of warning to the world is given more distinctly than in any of my other books.” Colporteur Ministry, 127.

Several years ago, while on business in Malmö, Sweden, my friend Ingvar and I decided to approach people in the streets to offer a free copy of The Great Controversy to anyone who was genuinely interested. Almost immediately, we met a woman who had been looking for the truth. She acted so happy to receive the book that you might have thought she had won the lottery! Both Ingvar and I considered this woman’s reaction a calling from God to continue distributing The Great Controversy. Together we made three trips to Malmö, where in just nine days, by the grace of God we handed out about 370 books to interested individuals. One gentleman read half the book in one day and came looking for us on the street to give us a bear hug for his thankfulness!

Afterwards, Ingvar and I traveled to Örebro, where equal blessings awaited us. For example, I encountered a young man who just the day before had finished reading the New Testament and was wondering what to do next. He accepted The Great Controversy as a gift from God! Later, we went to Stockholm, and God prepared hearts in this secular city. We made three joint missionary trips to Stockholm before Ingvar died unexpectedly of cancer; and since then I have returned four times. In total, we passed out about 1,200 copies in Stockholm.

As I have traveled about Sweden, I have met many Christians from various denominations who have beamed like the sun when offered The Great Controversy. I have sometimes stood outside churches, trying to reach the people streaming out. Even church leaders have accepted the book with interest. God has shown again and again that He will send attentive souls into my path.

In my efforts, I have found one category of people that are more interested in the book than others: young people 17–20 years old. It all started in Kinna, in the Municipality of Mark, where I first tried handing out The Great Controversy near the upper secondary school.

I discovered that interest near the school was about three times greater than in the common streets and squares in the same municipality. That’s when I decided to start systematically working the upper secondary schools in my country.

Placing myself near the exit at the end of the school day, I watch for students gathering to chat. Then I approach them and ask: “Would you like my favorite book for nothing?” To my surprise, I have generally found that students are not ashamed of showing an interest in religion in front of their friends. Sometimes those who have received the book will show it to others, who then come asking for a copy themselves! I would never have dreamed I would be able to distribute so many books to students and teachers—sometimes 60 per school. I have even learned that some of my books have been read and passed on to the school library!

Because God sends the right individuals to me, in just one year I can sometimes distribute 1,300 copies of The Great Controversy in Sweden. I thank God heartily for this, and for the blessing of proclaiming our message in liberty. Let us make good use of our freedom!

YOU CAN, TOO!

Brother Wiberg’s tips on presenting The Great Controversy:

1.  It is easier to strike up conversation with people waiting for a bus or a streetlight than those jogging down the street.

2.  Ask people if they would like a copy of one of your favorite books for free. Immediately add: “That is, if you are interested in its contents.”

3.  If they show interest, tell them that the book is a summary of the history of Christendom from the apostles up to the Bible prophecies concerning the end of time. Read them several intriguing chapter titles.

4.  Ask whether they are interested in the Bible or its prophecies.

5.  If the person is keen on spiritual things, but doesn’t want to read a book of 600+ pages, offer a shorter book with a Bible study card inside.

  • Be open to God’s leading at all times!

08/19/2017: God Provides

God Provides

When a donation doesn’t come through, God provides a larger gift!

October 31, 2017, will mark the 500-year anniversary of the day when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. In commemoration of the occasion, the church that bears Luther’s name will be celebrating its reconciliation with Rome. Yet Protestants in 23 countries all over Europe and around the world have been taking this opportunity to share present truth with deceived souls. The pamphlet 2017 – 500 Years after Luther, which plainly shares God’s end-time message, will continue to be distributed right up until October 31 of this year!

In Romania, 80,000 pamphlets have been distributed so far. Our friends there wanted 100,000 more, and some people had promised to support the printing costs with €2,500. But the money did not come through. How could we solve this financial problem? We prayed to God for help, and a few days later about €45,000 arrived in our bank account!

We wrote to our friends to share how God had blessed us with more than enough money to proceed with the printing. Our friends then shared how two months before, they had to decide between looking outside Romania for work to pay bills or staying to prepare for a mission project in the southern part of that country. When they decided to go south to do God’s work, the Lord provided the money for their family’s needs. They said, “Our heavenly Father has always been working like that: At the last moment, while we serve Him, He gives exactly what we really need.”

This family’s experience resonated with our own. When we realized it was too much to keep our well-paying jobs and also maintain our ministry, we gave up our jobs to use all our time for the Lord for the rest of our lives. Though our personal income has dropped dramatically, God has been good to us. We live in the country, where blueberries and other berries grow wild in the forest. We pick them for the winter, and we also have a little garden. God has given us all we need and more! Through His blessing, we have sent out newsletters to many hundreds of non-Adventists for 25 years.

Pamphlets for Romania.

The €45,000 donation enabled us to print more than just the 100,000 pamphlets for Romania. We also printed 100,000 for Germany; 20,000 for Finland; 20,000 for Portugal; 20,000 for France; 20,000 for Holland; 20,000 for Austria and 20,000 for Italy. In all of these countries, God’s messengers eagerly began distributing the pamphlets as soon as they received them. Praise the Lord!

In Australia, after 40,000 pamphlets had been distributed, the brethren there wanted to print and hand out more. The man in charge of fundraising for the project thought to sell his car to jump-start the venture. While working on the sale of the vehicle, he opened an account where people could donate and began asking God if He would like to provide for the printing of 75,000 or even 100,000 pamphlets. Before the car could even be sold, the Lord brought in enough funds to print 100,000!

The Lord has been so gracious to provide for these printing projects, and we trust Him to keep providing until the opportunity afforded by the 500-year anniversary has passed. God is good, and we give all the glory to Him for His faithfulness to us!

07/08/2017: Small Beginnings, Great Rewards

Small Beginnings, Great Rewards

Over 79% of homes in the United Kingdom have been offered a free Great Controversy!

More than 20 years ago a 16-year-old boy set out with a far-reaching plan: to offer a free copy of The Great Controversy to everyone in the United Kingdom. Jonathan printed up leaflets offering the book, and he and his friends and family started delivering them by hand. Then they started sending out the leaflets by bulk mail—a few thousand at a time. The momentum grew, and today Advent Books has reached over 79% of the homes in the United Kingdom with the flyers. Even better, 31,000 hungry souls have received The Great Controversy, and 15,600 people have requested correspondence Bible lessons!

Requests for Great Controversies.

From that small beginning have come more small beginnings as people touched by the book become eager to share it. Back in April 2012, we received a request for The Great Controversy from a man named Paul. After reading the book, he wrote to us:

“Thank you for your book. A lot of the things told by Ellen White were very much on my mind. In fact, it hit the nail right on the head. . . . I think millions and millions are looking to the sky and praying for Jesus to come.” He then asked for more books by Ellen White, which we sent: first The Ministry of Healing, then Patriarchs and Prophets, next Steps to Christ and finally the Testimonies.

Paul loved reading the books, and every month he would send a letter telling us how he was doing. We praised the Lord for his response, but the most exciting part came when he started to request copies of The Great Controversy to give away. He kept asking for more, in quantities of 20 to 25, as he said people were eager to receive the books! “When I go out, people seem to like to have both the Remember cards* and The Great Controversy. I say to them, ‘Would you like the book to go with the Remember card?’ and they say, ‘Yes.’ It seems some in my district are becoming aware of things that are happening in the world.”

Volunteers help stack books.

Paul’s latest letter bubbled with an exciting update: “Good news! I am now a Seventh-day Adventist.” Quitting the Church of England, he had gotten in touch with the pastor of his local Seventh-day Adventist Church. Please pray that God will continue to help Paul on his journey into the truth!

Another partner helping disperse the books is Gran. Gran is nearly 92 years old, and like Paul, she takes every opportunity to give away The Great Controversy. Recently, she had a handyman come to help her with some manual work. When he had completed the job and was sitting down to his paperwork, Gran told him she would like to give him a book.

“It’s not Jehovah’s Witness, is it?” he asked.

“No,” Gran replied as she gave him The Great Controversy.

The man opened the book and read a little inside. Then he looked up at Gran and said, “Is it Adventist?”

A little surprised, Gran managed to affirm his guess.

Stocked with free book cards and ready to share!

“I have a friend who is an Adventist,” the man shared. “He keeps me informed as to what is going on in the world.”

Gran smiled. “Read the book from beginning to end, and you’ll understand more about that!” After they had talked some more, the handyman said he would enjoy reading the book.

Why not keep some books, tracts or cards advertising The Great Controversy in your bag or in your vehicle? Even small beginnings can bring great rewards. Who knows? The books you give away may produce a harvest of people like Paul—people who are on fire to spread the news that Jesus is coming back soon!

06/24/2017: Yvonne’s News

Yvonne’s News

A new Christian attempts to convince her mother not to go to a psychic to learn the future.

I have something to tell you.” Yvonne’s eyes sparkled. “My mum wanted to go and see a psychic to ask about my future. I told her not to do it, but she would not listen.” She shook her head. “Off she went on her electric bike to see the psychic.

“On her way there, the bike refused to work anymore,” Yvonne continued. “Mum turned to go home. But after she turned around, the bike started working again, so she turned to go back to the psychic after all. The bike refused to work again! Then she figured she’d better end her effort and go shopping. The whole time she was shopping and all way home the bike worked.” Yvonne grinned. “I think God did that, don’t you?” I could only agree that it sounded like a miracle of God’s working!

We continue our studies and visits with Yvonne, a young woman we met through a literature campaign on the streets of Melbourne, Australia. Yvonne has started attending the Seventh-day Adventist Church at times, since she now believes the Sabbath is the true day of rest. I originally brought Yvonne to a church outside her suburb, but she has repeatedly told me of her desire to visit the Seventh-day Adventist Church closest to her home. At length, my friend Sarah and I went there to join her. We found the people welcoming and friendly, but also rather liberal in regard to dress and adornment as well as the health message.

Despite all of that, God blessed so much. The speaker that day was a more conservative brother who gave a perfectly timed message about “judging.” He explained how, while we should not keep each other under the magnifying glass, it is right to give caring counsel and in a Christlike way help people to see things in their lives that are not in harmony with God’s principles. Yvonne told me after the sermon that she had been thinking about that very topic during the week, and that the sermon had answered her question!

I thank God so much for the impression left by this man and his sermon. The preacher and his wife are members of Yvonne’s local church and told me that they will have an eye out for her. I also plan to take Yvonne to visit one of the Gateway Adventist Centers, a network of more conservative congregations based at different university campuses throughout the Melbourne metropolitan area.

Besides our personal Bible studies and church visits, I have also given Yvonne a set of DVDs from an evangelistic series—the same set that has benefited another of my study contacts very much. I pray that it will help Yvonne to grow in her understanding of Scripture, as well.

Not only is Yvonne eager to know God for herself, but she wants her friends to know Him too. Recently she sent me another set of encouraging text messages. “Good news: My friend who lives in the United States has started to believe in God, and I find she has changed a lot. She also has a Bible teacher. I met her a long time ago when we were in university, and back then she was a bad girl. Praise God—He loves her too! Now we can share our experiences about God with each other. We are so exited! I am so glad to see how much she has changed after she started to believe in God! I am so happy for her!”

Please keep Yvonne and her spiritual progress in your prayers!

05/06/2017: Scattering Truth

Scattering Truth

Thousands of truth-filled pieces of literature were distributed during the pope’s visit to Sweden.

Thousands of truth-filled pieces of literature were distributed during the pope’s visit to Sweden.

On October 31 and November 1, 2016, the pope visited the cities of Lund and Malmö in Sweden. Ahead of time, we had mailed our booklet 2017 – 500 Years After Luther to all the households in Lund. We also spent time in early spring handing the booklets out on the streets.

On October 23, we presented an evangelistic meeting on the topic of the Antichrist to an interested audience in Lund. Three days later we hit the streets again to hand out our booklet along with The Great Controversy. We had to return home before the pope’s arrival, but before leaving, we rendezvoused with two representatives from a party of 50 who had come from 12 countries including Colombia, South Africa, the United States, Greece, the Netherlands and others to pass out 2017 – 500 Years After Luther, The Great Controversy and a DVD one of the group leaders had produced.

The team focused their efforts on Malmö, the larger of the two Swedish cities. Monday, October 31, 10,000 people gathered in an indoor arena in Malmö to watch on a big screen the papal appearance at the Lund Cathedral where an ecumenical meeting was being held. At the conclusion of the event, our team stood ready to distribute the materials.

Even some nuns took the resources, saying, “May we have some extra copies for the other nuns?”

Police officers standing near the arena exits inspected the contents of our team’s boxes and without a word returned to their positions close behind the distributors of truth. Instead of being a hindrance, the officers provided protection and even tacit promotion: Since the police did not protest, neither did the public. In fact, the people willingly accepted the booklets, books and DVDs. Some came and asked, “May I have one, too?” Even some nuns took the resources, saying, “May we have some extra copies for the other nuns?” Indeed, the booklets, books and DVDs were virtually torn from the hands of the missionaries, so that by the time 20 minutes had passed, the materials had all been handed out. Nearly everyone received at least one of the items, and some wanted all three. Surely God had a hand in this!

The following day the pope arrived in Malmö, and about 17,000 gathered inside the Malmö Arena to hear him speak. As the crowd disbursed, our distributors once more went to work. Once again, almost everyone accepted without protest. Altogether, the group handed out some 2,400 Swedish copies of The Great Controversy as well as 1,500 English ones, 8,000 copies of 2017 – 500 Years After Luther and 12,000 DVDs. With the truth now in their hands, these people shall have the opportunity to evaluate and make up their minds.

In the back of each copy of 2017 – 500 Years After Luther, information is provided on how to request The Great Controversy. Two or three days after the papal visit, orders started pouring in from professors, theologians, psychologists and others. One Catholic wrote saying he wanted the book for his brother. Another person said her father had read this book during his lifetime, and now that she had read our booklet, she wished to study it, too. Others stated that the booklet was so interesting they wanted to know more. Requests came in for weeks!

During the two days the pope spent in Sweden, the Catholic Church and the Lutheran Church signed a joint declaration stating their purpose to accept a common path. May God use the literature to warn the people of the danger of joining “all the world” in wondering after the beast. Revelation 13:3.

“I was given instruction that as we approach the end, there will be large gatherings in our cities, . . . and that preparations must be made to present the truth at these gatherings. . . .

“We should improve every such opportunity as that presented by the St. Louis Fair. At all such gatherings there should be present men whom God can use. Leaflets containing the light of present truth should be scattered among the people like the leaves of autumn. 03/18/2017: Broken Speaker

Broken Speaker

A failed witnessing opportunity is redeemed.

Missing Keys

I’d only had the laptop for a couple of weeks. It was a brand new, professional machine made to handle intensive tasks such as video editing. Yet already, one of its speakers had developed a horrible buzz. Such an early hardware failure made me wonder if I should have purchased a different brand.

The computer did come with a warranty, so I telephoned technical support. After running through tests over the phone, the company decided to send a technician to my home to replace the broken speaker.

The day the technician arrived, he acted rather discouraged. I tried to think of something I could say to cheer him up, but Chris resisted my efforts at small talk. He seemed to prefer to work in silence.

You should give him some literature.

I can’t say I welcomed the thought. Hadn’t he made it clear that he didn’t want to talk? Besides, the company probably prohibited him from accepting gifts. It would be no use to offer!

Soon Chris had repaired the computer, and he asked me to test the new speaker just to make sure. The speakers sounded lovely, but I noticed two buttons missing from the keyboard. I felt bad pointing it out, but I did need those keys.
Chris hung his head. “I’m sorry. I must have popped those off.” He went to work again.

You should give him some literature, the thought came stronger. Then my neighbor came for a visit, and by the time she left Chris had given up trying to put the keys back on. “I can’t do it, even with tweezers,” he said. “I’ll have to order a new keyboard. They’ll send someone out to replace it on Monday. It might
be me.” Apologizing again, he made his retreat.

Why didn’t you give him literature? Now I felt really guilty. How often did strangers visit my home, and who else would share Christ with this man?

“I’m sorry, Lord,” I confessed in prayer. “I know I let You down. If You send the same technician back on Monday, I’ll give him some literature.”

Monday morning, I reaffirmed my promise in prayer. Sure enough, halfway through the day Chris showed up at my door—in much better spirits than on Friday. The keyboard replacement went quickly, and all the time I knew what I needed to do. Still, I felt timid.

What will you say to Jesus? a still, small voice whispered.
“Jesus, I know You died for this man, but I’m shy, and I don’t really like giving out literature.” What a preposterous thought! “OK, Jesus,” I prayed silently. “I’ll give him Steps to Christ. But help me! Give me courage.”

Chris finished his task and asked if I had any questions.
“No,” I said. “Thank you. But hey . . .” He looked up from his briefcase, expectant.

“I work for a mission organization, and I feel really impressed to give this to you.” I handed him a copy of Steps to Christ. “It’s a little book about how to know Jesus. It has really blessed my life.”

For the first time, Chris gave me a real smile. “Thank you! I appreciate that.” Packing up, he turned to the door. “Have a nice day!”
Sweet peace filled my heart. The Holy Spirit had known all along that Chris had a searching soul. Maybe He had sent angels to break my speaker! Then, when I needed the extra encouragement, He sent them again to break my keyboard.

I guess I won’t know for sure until I get to Heaven. I’m praying, though, that I’ll meet Chris there—and together we can thank Jesus for loving us both enough to use a broken computer to get through to me!

02/11/2017: Seeker on the Street

Seeker on the Street

In a time of need, Yvonne finds the truth on the streets of Melbourne, Australia.

Last January, we held a literature campaign in Melbourne, Australia. A number of old and young went out on the streets passing out truth-filled books and maga-zines and talking to people in the busy thoroughfares. Two of our team members met Yvonne, a young Chinese lady.

shutterstock_431758537
In a time of need, Yvonne finds the truth on the streets of Melbourne, Australia.

Before coming to Melbourne, Yvonne had lived in another part of Australia where she had been visited by Jehovah’s Witnesses. They had given her Bible studies in her home and invited her to their church. Now that she had moved to Melbourne, however, the Jehovah’s Witnesses had not pursued contact with her. She felt a void in her life, as she had really enjoyed the Bible studies and the church visits. Praise God—He allowed us to reach her first! I am sure He sent her out in the street that day to meet our team. As they talked, Yvonne requested a free Ministry of Healing and a Bible.

Some weeks after the encounter, my friend Lorna and I went to visit Yvonne to make sure she had received the books and to offer her personal Bible studies. We found her ready, open and eager! On the first visit, she asked if she could get baptized. After a few studies, Lorna invited Yvonne to visit her home and attend her local church. When a church member asked how she liked her studies with us, Yvonne said, “I want to be baptized, but we need to go through the studies first!”

It’s so nice to study with Yvonne. Already, we have been able to address deep topics such as the Sabbath, God’s Law and the state of the dead. Yvonne has resigned from her former job and is looking for a new one, so of course I have encouraged her to take God’s holy day off work so she can have the special blessing of fellowship with Him.

One day after studying the state of the dead with Yvonne, I paused to eat lunch in my car outside her house. I had not even left the area before her messages started reaching me:

“Dear Stine, thank you for your teaching. That was very interesting and helpful. Love
to you.”

A few minutes later: “In Luke chapter 16, verse 23 it says: ‘And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.’ . . . Did God torment him in hell?”

I sent her a couple of links to helpful articles by Amazing Facts, and she replied: “Thank you so much, let me have a look.” Two minutes later, another message came: “Is it not right to wear the cross on a necklace
like an image?”

By this time I was about to drive home, so I told her I would get back to her later. It’s been so interesting to meet a person who is so eager, so full of valuable questions and so open for answers!

A few weeks ago Lorna and I took Yvonne to the Melbourne Asian Church to introduce her to our Chinese friend there who is active in ministry. Our church friend invited Yvonne to an afternoon program, and she accepted. Last time Lorna and I visited her she told us some of the new things she had been learning. Our Chinese church friend is happy to help with the follow up, and we are looking forward to seeing how God will continue to work with this precious soul. Keep her in your prayers!

08/06/2016: Mission to Norway

Mission to Norway

Do you go on mission trips in your own country? We do! In the last part of 2015 we took two mission trips in Norway. For the first one, in September, we set aside four weeks to tour northern Norway, visiting non-Adventists who receive our newsletters and pamphlets. Traveling in our camper, we could go and stop whenever we wished with a goal of meeting our contacts in their homes (or our camper). In the relaxed home environment, the people could open up, sharing their true thoughts and asking all their questions.

Traveling Norway in the ministry camper.
Traveling Norway in the ministry camper.

Our aim for our mission trips is always to settle our friends into the truth by studying the Word of God together. In some homes we stay only one hour and in other homes we stay nearly all day. These face-to-face studies have been fruitful, and many people, especially those that have been in the Pentecostal movement, have accepted the truth. Our doctrines about Israel, hell and other difficult topics can be challenging for them, but some of the people have seen the light from the Bible even on these subjects. During our September trip, four new people accepted the Sabbath as the day of worship!

While in northern Norway, we met a lady in a rural district for the first time. It was difficult to drive to her home with the camper, but we finally arrived. She had received information from us for 25 years, and during the conversation we discovered that she now shares our faith. She told us she reads her Bible every day, and we could see that she is settled into the truth. It is encouraging to meet such people!

On our second trip we went to the districts of Stavanger and Sandnes in western Norway. We had about 100 people we wanted to meet with, but we could only manage to visit about 25 homes. Nevertheless we had many very good gatherings, leaving a few people eager to be baptized soon. The campaign ended well. One November evening after sunset, a new believer was baptized in a little lake on the west coast of Norway. Already the water was chilly, but this was the last chance to hold a baptism before the cold winter arrived! When we left the area, it was with hopes to return and continue visiting contacts as soon as possible.

Evening baptism.

This year is an important year for Christian Information Service. Our main goal is to distribute the pamphlet 2017—500 Years after Luther! In only one year, churches in Europe will celebrate not Luther but the unity between the fallen Protestant churches and the Catholic Church. The pope will visit Sweden on October 31, 2016, exactly 499 years after Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg. Shall we be silent in this situation? Sweden and Norway have been strong Protestant countries. Even in our national hymn we sing that King Sverre spoke against Rome. However, the situation has been gradually changing until today, many people even in the Protestant churches do not understand the importance of the Reformation and holding to truth. God needs us to stand up as His modern reformers and spread the word of truth far and near!

By God’s grace, the pamphlet 2017—500 Years after Luther is currently being distributed in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Italy, the Philippines, Poland, India, Iceland, Australia and the United States. Soon it will also be printed for Finland. We give all the honor and glory to God for the distribution of this booklet.

Sharing a meal and Bible study with our contacts.

We are very thankful for all the people that are taking part in the distribution of the pamphlet, but we want to see even more people taking up the work. We need more activity! We need more engagement! We need more people handing out literature on the street! We need more people who can sponsor this project so the message can go out to the people before the global celebration on October 31, 2017.

The so-called celebration of Luther, a celebration of unity between the churches, will be one of the biggest celebrations in history. Therefore, we feel we must seize this opportunity to lift the trumpet and give the end-time message to the world. The pamphlet 2017—500 Years after Luther gives an overview of the end-time message, a message of grace and warning as found in Revelation 14:6–12 and 18:4.

We pray that you will take the 500-year anniversary of the Reformation as an opportunity to share God’s last-day message with your neighbors. Please spread the word so that we can find more helpers to take part in this project! If you cannot help to distribute this Reformation literature, then please pray for us. Thank you very much, and may God richly bless you.

12/12/2015: The Good News Deep in Ghana

The Good News Deep in Ghana

The Lord Jesus said to Peter, “When thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” Luke 22:32. After His resurrection, just before His ascension, He said to His disciples, “Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.” John 21:16. This was a work in which Peter had but little experience; but he could not be complete in the Christian life unless he learned to feed the lambs, those who are young in the faith.

Listening to the Good News.

In Accra, the capital city of Ghana, lies Alhaji-Tabora, a predominately poor Muslim community with little or no knowledge about the Sabbath truth, not to mention the Three Angels’ Messages or health reform. Knowing the territory very well, we led a team of eight workers from Steps to Life to launch a 21-day crusade that turned out to be an eye opener for many. Our topics included the Sabbath message, spiritualism, the health message, and many more messages that were outlined to make people aware of the issues that pertain to their spiritual life, eternity, and their relationship with God.

Each night about 150-200 people attended. The crusade was led by seasoned speakers including Pastor BD Nuako, a naturopath, and evangelist Isaac Dwemena who took turns to explain vividly all the lessons that were laid open to the people.

An astonishing and emotional moment occurred when one sister, Hannah, became convinced that the Sabbath is the true day of worship. She broke into tears and confessed that she has been deceived by her Sunday school teachers and pastors. She pledged to obey the Sabbath truth and all the other biblical doctrines. She went to her former pastor and enquired if all this truth is in the Bible. The pastor told her that we are under grace, so you can choose any day to be Sabbath. “Don’t let this Adventist deceive you.” Hannah told the pastor, “I have chosen to go to church on the Sabbath, if we are under grace.” Praise be to the Lord!

Health screenings during evangelistic campaigns.

Since the open-air crusade ended, those convicted by the message have been taught in a hired classroom every evening and Sabbath day. It is sad that most of these people have no clue whatsoever about the present truth, which makes the work enormous. Strong efforts must be applied to take people out of spiritualist consciousness into believing in a loving God who created us all and who gave His only begotten Son to become our Redeemer from sin. This convert’s class has shown a tremendous turnout of about 21 people who are being given baptismal studies. The medical missionary team was also present to assist us with health screening which found pockets of people with high blood sugar and hypertension due to poor diet and lifestyle.

The Lord has been gracious to us and it’s our hope to launch more such efforts to plant more churches within the metropolis and its environs.

The guests praying with the evangelists.

This year has also been a blessed year for other types of evangelism. Door-to-door literature evangelism has become very effective for winning souls for Christ. We challenged every member to bring with him or her one or more new people to Bible studies every Sabbath. This has been very successful. We also teach them that the work of spreading the Good News does not depend exclusively on the minister alone but help from the members, too. The promise of Christ’s second coming was ever to be kept fresh in the minds of His disciples. “The same Jesus whom they had seen ascending into Heaven, would come again, to take to Himself those who here below give themselves to His service.” Acts of the Apostles, 33.

“It is not ministers alone who are soldiers, but every man and woman who has enlisted in Christ’s army; and are they willing to receive a soldier’s fare, just as Christ has given them an example in His life of self-denial and sacrifice? What self-denial have our churches as a whole manifested? They may have given donations in money, but have withheld themselves.” Christian Service, 35.

At the beginning of 2015, there were three evangelism crusades in the towns of Agona Swedru, Weija, and Alhaji-Tabora. We are working on contacting the heathen and idol worshippers who have been unreached in Ghana and who are ignorant about the Sabbath and or even that God exists. With your support, we have been active in evangelism campaigns. As a result of these campaigns we have established three Sabbath School branches, which, along with the newly-formed churches, are on the increase. In the response to the Lord’s commission, we decided to bring the Good News to some unevangelized towns in Ghana. The Alhaji-Tabora area is known to be a stronghold of Islam and pagan idol worship. So far, amidst scarcity and difficulty, the Lord has blessed us by raising a church there. Praise be to God!

The follow-up work still continues, and we need your prayers for these new converts to be well grounded in the Lord. “Remember that you will never reach a higher standard than you yourself set. Then set your mark high, and step by step, even though it be by painful effort, by self-denial and sacrifice, ascend the whole length of the ladder of progress. Let nothing hinder you. Fate has not woven its meshes about any human being so firmly that he need remain helpless and in uncertainty. Opposing circumstances should create a firm determination to overcome them. The breaking down of one barrier will give greater ability and courage to go forward. Press with determination in the right direction, and circumstances will be your helpers, not your hindrances.” Christ’s Object Lessons, 331.
