“The word comes to me in the night season to speak to the churches that know the truth: ‘Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.’ Isaiah 60:1. The words of the Lord in the fifty-fourth chapter of Isaiah are for us: ‘Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame.… For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called.’ Isaiah 54:2–5. And the words of Christ to His disciples are also for His people today: ‘Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.’ John 4:35, 36. God’s people have a mighty work before them, a work that must continually rise to greater prominence. Our efforts in missionary lines must become far more extensive. A more decided work than has been done must be done prior to the second appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s people are not to cease their labors until they shall encircle the world.” Christian Experience and Teachings, 219. What a commission has been given us as a church! There are many spiritually dark places in the world that need to hear the Three Angels Message that will prepare them to meet Jesus in the clouds of the heaven. Many are eagerly waiting to hear the last warning message for planet earth.
In the landlocked African country of Malawi, a great spiritual awakening is taking place. Spiritual darkness has reigned supreme in this country and there is a man determined to penetrate the gross darkness of heathenism and superstition. Golden Lapani, who is a lay pastor, was converted to the Muslim religion at a very young age. Later in his life he had an extraordinary experience of a dream which lead him to Christianity, in spite of his parent’s disapproval. Soon after this experience, he converted to Adventism and began spreading the message of Christ’s eminent return. He left his teaching career to preach the Three Angels Messages to his former Muslim brothers.
Many of the places he works are very dangerous because of the opposition to the message, but he is determined that the Muslim community hear the light of truth. He often starts his efforts in a community by helping to supply their physical needs for food and blankets. Through these Christ-like deeds of kindness, he is reaching the hearts of many and this has opened up opportunities for him to hold three week crusades in many villages. During a crusade he held in his hometown village of Katambasula dozens were converted to the faith. After the crusade, he built a Seventh-day Adventist church just 800 meters from the mosque where he formerly had prayed and worshipped daily. This church is one of 43 that he has built for the glory of God. He tries to visit these churches three times in a year, and makes notes of who is not attending. He then visits them and encourages them, helps with their needs, and prays for them if they are sick. He returns to hold revival meetings which have added many more to the church.
Golden Lapani covets your prayers for those who will hear the message, for the work he is doing and for the enemies who oppose the message. If you would like to help support the work Golden is doing, mark your donation, “Malawi Mission.”
