Letter from Cody: Philippines – October 2010

Brother Jun and his family

How much do we really want Jesus to come? Are we tired of this world with its burden of sin? What efforts are we putting forth to hasten the coming of the Messiah? Do the words of Jesus apply to us: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot…” (Rev. 3:15)? In the mid-1850s a revival swept through the ranks of nascent Seventh-day Adventism as believers and ministers began to apply these heart-searching words to themselves. Right during this time, Ellen White warned, “Worldly-mindedness, selfishness, and covetousness have been eating out the spirituality and life of God’s people…. They plan and toil early and late, and sacrifice their ease and comfort for earthly treasure. A corresponding zeal on their part to obtain the gold, white raiment, and eyesalve will bring them in possession of these desirable treasures and life, everlasting life, in the kingdom of God.” Testimonies, vol. 1, 141, 143. How is it with us? Could this be said of us, as well? What are our priorities? Are we putting forth more effort for our earthly comfort than for our eternal destiny? This message to repent and be fully in earnest not only brings about a shaking in our lives and the church but also determines the destiny of the church. “… This will cause a shaking among God’s people. The testimony of the True Witness has not been half heeded. The solemn testimony upon which the destiny of the church hangs has been lightly esteemed, if not entirely disregarded. This testimony must work deep repentance, and all that truly receive it will obey it and be purified.” Testimonies, vol. 1, 181. May this warning to us work deep repentance, obedience and purification in our lives.

The crowded prisons where Brother Jun ministers

This month I would like to share some of the instruments that God is using to share the Three Angels’ Messages in the Philippines. There is a team of workers who are sacrificing their time, means and everything that they have to share this precious message with others. Brother Nanding is the indefatigable evangelist always traveling to wherever there is an opening to share the message of truth. Brother Titing is the quieter, behind-the-scenes worker who is currently in the process of establishing a training school for young people interested in doing missionary work for the Master. The school is truly a missionary training program replete with many hardships even for the local Filipinos, but with the Lord’s blessing they are praying that an army of workers will be sent forth. Brother Tem-tem is the gifted Bible worker hunting and searching for new contacts with whom to study the Bible and lead to the Savior and His truth. Another faithful brother is being added to the team with a burden for visiting and ministering to the overflowing prisons. Brother Jun came to the Lord while serving a prison sentence himself, and now he is doing everything he can to open the eyes of those who have been blinded and trapped by sin. Currently he is ministering in fourteen different prisons nearly every day of the week. He travels conducting Bible studies, holding prophecy seminars and conducting church services. The Lord is blessing his efforts with groups of forty to eighty worshipping each Sabbath and studying throughout the week in each prison—hundreds of believers! These faithful brethren and many others, too, are working in different lines in different localities, but they are united in their desire and purpose to take the gospel to all within their reach. May we be inspired by their zeal, and may we help these brothers in their work for the Master.

Yours in the Master’s service,
