Letter from Cody: Ghana – May 2010

What would we do without being able to uplift our hearts to our compassionate God as we travel through each day? What a blessing that so many miss today to present our little troubles, trials, difficulties, dilemmas and heartaches to the Sovereign of the Universe! While we may bring anything before our Lord, have you ever noticed what Jesus has specifically commanded us to pray about? He said to his disciples on His last night with them: “Pray that ye enter not into temptation.” (Luke 22:40) How important still for us today! Included in the greatest sermon ever preached is a command to pray for those for whom it is hardest to pray: “Pray for them which despitefully use you.” (Luke 6:28) In Jesus’ great prophetic discourse on the Mount of Olives: “But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day.” (Matt. 24:20) Then as Jesus saw the magnitude of the work stretching before Him: “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2) Each of these prayer commands come down with even greater force to us today. May we not only pray about our daily needs and difficulties, but may we remember to pray for that which we have been specifically called upon to pray!

As with any prayer, it is always greatly encouraging to see the answer come. Even when the answer delays or when God sees in His providence that to grant our request is not the best, we must continue to trust and persevere in

prayer; but how exciting when we see the hand of omnipotence moving at our little feeble prayers! One area that the Lord is working in answer to the prayer to send workers and to further His work is in the West African country of Ghana. While there are many faithful workers seeking to share the message of the Three Angels’ Messages for this time, there are also consecrated lay members doing their utmost for the Master, too. The Waldensian Fellowship is a group of young university students that are striving to make a difference where they are. While engaged in their studies, they are also very active in evangelistic work and have held several evangelistic campaigns. On one of these efforts, one of the youth was preaching about the change of the Sabbath when an angry priest came up and started shouting and causing quite a disturbance. The presenter tried to continue sharing the message and appeal to people’s hearts to take a stand for the truth that they were learning, but it was to no avail. People from everywhere began to come to see the disturbance. Soon nearly the entire town had gathered as the priest continued to protest the exposing of his church. The priest had his catechisms in his hand and dared them to prove from his catechism. While these were a different version than the one they were familiar with, one of the youth took the catechism and opened it. Providentially, it opened to the very page where the Catholic Church claims the change of the Sabbath as its mark. Handing the open book back to the priest, he asked him to read it. As the priest looked down, the anger on his countenance faded to shame and amazement as he read from his very own book the exact claim that the youthful preacher had made! They then contrasted this boastful claim with the Word of God; and through the opposition of the priest, the entire town was able to clearly see the truths of the Word of God. Praise the Lord for His leading! There are many others answering the prayers we are to pray and going to share the message of truth with the white harvest field. Would you like to help these faithful workers spread the message far and wide in their country? You can help by marking your donation “Ghana Evangelism,” and let us each join in prayer for the Lord to send workers that this work may soon be finished!
