Changed flights bring truth to a young seeker.

My daughter and I had just finished representing Amazing Facts Ministries Canada at the Generation of Youth for Christ event in Ottawa, Ontario. It had been a busy conference, with lots of young attendees visiting our exhibit. Early in the morning, Laura and I arrived at the airport to check in for our homeward flight, but the kiosk would not accept our information and said that we needed to see an agent.

The airline agent looked at our itinerary and asked, “Did you change your tickets?”

I shook my head “no.”

“Your itinerary has been changed and is no longer valid,” she said, “but I’ll see if I can still get you back to Cranbrook by this evening.” After working at it for some time, she finally handed us our new boarding passes. Our first flight would be a half hour jaunt to Toronto, followed by a long flight the rest of the way. What a relief that we would still make it home that day!

About halfway through our flight to Toronto, I sensed the need to get out my Bible. Why? I pondered. I have only 15 more minutes on this flight and I can read for four hours on the flight towards home. Yet the impression persisted, so I pulled out my precious Brown and Marley KJV Bible and laid it open on the tray table in front of me.

“Are you reading the Bible?” a young woman to my right who looked to be in her 30s asked me.

“Yes,” I nodded.

“Are you a Christian?”

“Yes,” I smiled, “I am a Christian and my daughter and I have just been to Ottawa for a young people’s gathering called GYC, which stands for ‘Generation of Youth for Christ.’ ”

“What do you do for a living?” the young lady asked.

“I am the director of a Christian media ministry called Amazing Facts Ministries, located in beautiful British Columbia.”

“Does Amazing Facts have a church in Ottawa?” she asked.

“No,” I said, “but we belong to a larger network of believers.”

“What church do you belong to?”

“The Seventh-day Adventist Church.”

“Oh,” she asked, “is that the church which keeps Sabbath instead of Sunday?”

“Yes,” I nodded, “that’s the day Jesus observed, and we are His followers.”

Her face lit up. “My husband and I have been studying about the Sabbath for the past three or four months, and we are convicted that Saturday is the true day of worship, but we still have questions at times.”

Taking my backpack, I pulled out a book. “I happen to have a book here which may help you with those questions. You can have it.”

Eagerly taking the book, she placed it into her bag. Then she asked me if I knew any young people in the Ottawa area who keep Sabbath, and I was able to give her connections with some young Seventh-day Adventists.

“You know,” she said, “when I sat down on this plane, I sensed a presence and did not know exactly what it was. When you pulled out your Bible, I knew. Besides that, I was not supposed to be on this flight, but my tickets got changed around. Now I know why.”

“Isn’t that something!” I said. “Our flight itinerary was also changed, which is why we are on this flight.”

In that young woman, I sensed an honest soul seeking for truth and direction. God is working in amazing ways today. What a privilege to be a part of His program!
