Camp Meeting in Kenya

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25.

The week of December fifth to the twelfth held much anticipation for the people who are scattered around 
Kenya. It would be a week for camp meeting for the believers in Kenya. In October letters were sent out to inform all of the upcoming meetings.

On Sunday the fifth of December, people started arriving at Mirisa Academy in Barut near Lake Nakuru. Nakuru is famous for the millions of flamingos that live there.

The people came by hired vans, by foot and by other modes of transportation. By 4:00 pm there were 96 campers already there. This was the highest number we have had for a first day of camp. Supper was served and everyone was shown where they would sleep. At 6:00, the evening devotion started.

During the evening meeting, my wife Susan became ill. She had pain below her abdomen. I decided to take her to the hospital, leaving the meetings under the care of Brother Hudson, Sr. Upon arrival at the hospital, we realized that because it was Sunday; only one doctor was on duty and had many patients to see. I took my wife’s hand and prayed very earnestly for her. We left for our home and prayed again, and I gave her garlic with ginger powder. In just ten minutes, she had a smile on her face. We praised the Lord and went back to the camp meeting. She is still doing well.

Each day at camp we had a variety of meetings. There was time for physical exercise, time for devotions, meals, youth classes and the regular meetings with speakers. The topics that were shared included the sanctuary message, the Three Angels’ Messages, the time of Jacob’s trouble, the second coming of Christ, the pillars of our faith and more.

It was a blessing this year that the meetings started on time and the speakers kept to their allotted schedule. This helped things to go smoothly.

At this camp meeting we had people come from far away. They came from twenty two different regions of Kenya. Many of these people worship alone or in small groups and really enjoyed the fellowship of many believers. One man stood up on Sabbath and gave his testimony. He had lived for many years alone and worshiped alone. A long-time friend visited him and told him of the camp meeting in Nakuru. They discussed that it had been many years since they attended a camp meeting. It was decided to try to go. They contacted me, and we said we would assist them with fare back home if they could get to the meetings. They did come and encouraged us to help spread the message in their region.

On Friday, we had a baptism of eleven candidates. One of these was my mother who has been to many meetings and has worshiped every Sabbath for the last ten years. Another man was an elder in a Pentecostal church. Another young man had been studying for eight years and now decided to follow Jesus all the way.

Sabbath was a rich blessing to all. The messages were inspiring; and the food, which consisted of melons, pineapples, bananas and homemade brown buns, was enjoyed by all the campers. There were 220 in attendance. Before the close of the Sabbath, each person was able to stand and tell where they were from and share.

I want to thank a lady we call Mum; she is our spiritual mother. He name is Margaretha, and she is from Australia. She has done so much to make sure this meeting and other meetings are a success.

Our needs are many. It takes funds to have these camp meetings, and we would like to hold more meetings if we had the funds to do this. We also need Spirit of Prophecy books and Bibles.

“He [Enoch] did not make his abode with the wicked. He did not locate in Sodom, thinking to save Sodom. He placed himself and his family where the atmosphere would be as pure as possible. Then at times he went forth to the inhabitants of the world with his God-given message. Every visit he made to the world was painful to him. He saw and understood something of the leprosy of sin. After proclaiming his message, he always took back with him to his place of retirement some who had received the warning. Some of these became overcomers, and died before the Flood came.
