Letter from Cody: Evangelism – November 2010

As the days are growing progressively shorter, it reminds me of Jesus’ words, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4. As the literal daylight becomes less and less, how much so is the day of opportunity to work out our own salvation and to work for the salvation of those around us becoming less and less, too. According to Jesus’ words, soon the night will come in which none can work. Soon the difficulties to give the message will be greater than we can even now comprehend. “We have no time to lose…. From the light given me of God I know that the powers of darkness are working with intense energy from beneath, and with stealthy tread Satan is advancing to take those who are now asleep, as a wolf taking his prey. We have warnings now which we may give, a work now which we may do; but soon it will be more difficult than we can imagine.” Testimonies, vol. 6, 22. We do not want to face the awful accusations of those who say with agonized voices, “‘You knew! Why then did you not tell us? We did not know.’ On every side I heard similar words of reproach spoken.” Testimonies, vol. 9, 28. God has given us a work to do, are we doing it? May we truly “Work for the night is coming, when man works no more.”

Prophecy Seminar in Everett, WA

In one of the local churches here in Washington, we are trying to do just this. We are so thankful to the Lord for giving us another opportunity to share the final warning message with the men and women in our area. It is always with excitement that we come to opening night, hoping and praying that the Lord will fill up the room, and the Lord is always faithful to bring some who are searching for truth. On the first night over thirty from the community came out to study the sure Word of prophecy. As we have progressed through the meetings, some have dropped off while others have come on board, but there is still a faithful core coming and delighting in the truths that they are learning. As we have gone through the meetings, we have not been without attacks. On one night, there was a birthday party for a one-year-old right beside us. While that seems innocuous enough, it was only by a miracle of God that we were able to hear our own meeting. With the deafening music barely being muted by the “air wall” between us, it was only with much prayer that our meeting was able to go forward. While speaking, I was reminded of the thunderstorm that led to the development of the Bible study method with Elder Haskell calling out the Bible verses and people looking them up in their own Bibles. It was my hope that even if everything that I was saying could not be heard, at least the Bible texts would become fixed in their minds. While it was a distraction, to say the least, the Lord blessed and the message went forward. As we are nearing the end of the meetings, decisions are being made and we are praying that the Lord will work mightily in behalf of those coming. As we invited people to church for the first time after covering the Sabbath, how thankful we were that several came out of their comfort zone to worship our Creator, but the battle is still raging. Some are faced with such major lifestyle changes that seem overwhelming. Others have been out of work for so long that there is a major internal conflict raging of whether they should take a stand for all of God’s commandments or get any job that they can. One individual stated that she sees everything coming straight from the Bible and does not know why everyone does not see it and follow the Word of God. There are many individual battles going on right now, and the enemy is seeking to drown them in the necessities of this world—jobs, family, etc. How we need to present these dear souls before the Lord that He may lift up the standard against the enemy! Please pray for these precious individuals who are even now in the valley of decision.
