The Bible is filled with beautiful prayers of the heart’s burdened cry seeking help from above. These prayers are recorded so that we can unite our prayers with those of the Biblical authors of long ago. Like David we can plead, “Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin…. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit with in me.” Psalm 51:2, 10. With the disciples we can entreat, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Luke 11:1. When we see the tide of wickedness overwhelming our world today, our hearts can cry, “It is time for thee, Lord, to work: for they have made void thy law.” Psalm 119:126. In addition to the many Biblical burdens for prayer, the Lord has given us additional thoughts to come before the Lord with through the Spirit of Prophecy. The familiar but necessary daily prayer, “Take me, O Lord, as wholly Thine. I lay all my plans at Thy feet. Use me today in Thy service. Abide with me, and let all my work be wrought in Thee.” Steps to Christ, 70. As we prepare for our daily work, we should pray for the Lord’s blessing in our service for Him. “Lord, help me to do my best. Teach me how to do better work. Give me energy and cheerfulness. Help me to bring into my service the loving ministry of the Saviour.” Ministry of Healing, 474. Then again we need to pray thoughts of total consecration to our Lord, “Take my poor heart, and let it be Thine, wholly and entirely, Thine, now and forever.” Manuscript Releases, vol. 1, 346. With so much subject matter for prayer, how much we need to “pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17. As we talk to our loving God as we talk to a friend, may we not forget to pray the thoughts that He Himself has put on our lips.

Brother Muyayu

As I think of the power of prayer, I know that the Lord is answering prayer in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Daniel Miranda, a student at Hartland College, and I have just returned from this country and we praise God for how He is working to spread His message there. Brother Kasongo continues to travel to the remote villages sharing the Three Angels’ Message with them through Bible study guides in their own language. We were able to visit several of these outlying villages and see the interest and desire of the people to follow the Lord fully. One brother that we met was Brother Muyayu from the village of Mipelenje. Brother Muyayu is an honest seeker for truth who desired to know the way of salvation more fully. As he came in contact with the brethren who shared Biblical teaching with him, he had an earnest desire to know more. Despite the distance (probably seventy to eighty miles of walking), he came many times to Bro. Kasongo’s home to have his questions answered and to study further. After seeing the clear Biblical testimony for himself, he determined to take his stand for the Three Angels’ Message. Brother Muyayu immediately began to share with his church family. He had been a gospel worker for the Pentecostal church with five churches under his leadership. As he shared the truths he had discovered with his churches, the believers that he had ministered to were then led to make a decision. Not everyone was happy with the new message but many made a decision to stand for the Biblical truths they were learning. So far three of the five churches that he worked with have chosen to begin keeping the seventh-day Sabbath and leave their Pentecostal worship style behind.
